Italian term

NSTEMI su subocclusione 1° ramo diagonale

Italian to English Medical Medical: Cardiology Ischemic Heart Disease
This is part of the diagnosis in the record of a patient who underwent coronary angiography and angioplasty. In context:

Diagnosi
1. Cardiopatia ischemica

It's really just the 'su' that confuses me ... NSTEMI, and sub-occlusion, and first diagonal branch are clear. Does 'su' mean that the MI took place because/due to/secondary to the subocclusion in the first diagonal branch?

We've had a previous KudoZ question about 'Stato da' as well. I'm guessing the writer is saying 'status post' here?

Discussion

Lirka May 13, 2010:
Joseph, It means 'in the context of' which is awkward to use in EN ( but great in German btw) so just say 'with'. Or if you want, you can also add 'an underlying', too. Saying 'due to' would be OK, too, in fact...

'su' is used in the sense of 'più (di)', maybe? If so, it would mean 'plus' or 'and'. Does that fit in the larger context?
Dr Lofthouse May 13, 2010:
to me (whatever thats worth:), you look right- looks like they should have used 'of '

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I think, after the explanations, that 'underlying' is justified because of the 'su' preposition in the Italian. "
