I am interested in the differences in these 2 terms.
In English, the word "barber shop" usually applies to men--women & children can get their hair cut there, but it sounds more like a place men go. Is that true for 理髪店?
Vice versa, "beauty salon" sounds like a place where mostly women go to get their hair done. Men & children also can go there, but it sounds more like a place where the clientele is mostly women. Is that true for 美容室?
Any other info on the Japanese nuances of 理髪店 and 美容室 would be appreciated. Thank you.
