I am only going to say this once: "o real" is a Lacanian psychoanalytical term. It is not "realidade", which is reality. It's possible that this person used the term either knowingly or unknowingly. There is no other translation for it EXCEPT "the real" AND, if they used it to mean reality, they should have said so. In Lacanian terms, images outside the real do not exist. It's likely this person misused the term without realizing it. Therefore, I would not tamper with their use of language.
