Persona

Spanish to English Bus/Financial Human Resources
Hi all,
I am working with an enterprise management software application that uses the Spanish word "Persona" as a broad category that describes both individuals and companies. It is the place in the application where the user creates the initial, main record -- with contact information and personal data -- for an employee, a potential employee, or a company that acts like an employee. In fact, one of the choices to make when creating a record is whether the "Persona" is an individual (Persona física) or a company (Persona jurídica).

We have been using "Person" in the English translation, which does not seem appropriate for the companies. Do you have any suggestions for what to call this very broad category? "Individual/Company Record"? "Entity"?

Thanks!

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks, Michael. I think I will go with "Entity" for the broad "Persona" category, and then, as I have, Individual and Legal entity for the two types of "persona." Thanks very much to all!"

legal person

I think you can use legal person, or legal entity

party

if "individual" would rule out the companies, party is an option

person

If you stick to "person" as at present that will tie in with your translation of "persona física" and "persona jurídica" (physical/legal person).
Note from asker:
I may select this option, in the end. However, in English, the "persona jurídica" is, as Michael has noted, "legal entity." Thanks for the suggestion!

User [ID]

In that specific case where it is a broad record both for individuals and companies and it its a software, I would either use User or User ID.
HTH!
Note from asker:
Unfortunately, this will not work in our context, as the "personas" will not always be users, but thank you for the suggestions.
