Discussion

I see. Of course you cannot change the numbering system used in a code of laws. Sorry, I hadn't seen the kind of document you were translating :o)
Non-ProZ.com Aug 22, 2005:
Maria Eugenia, you should blame the mexican legislature for the roman numerals in their Penal Code. I just copy/pasted from the following website:
http://info4.juridicas.unam.mx/ijure/tcfed/8.htm?s=
CAPITULO IV; Articulo 15; inciso V.

I guess the numbered paragraphs (which, by the way, you should list using Arabic, not Roman numbers, as the latter are not usual in English) are preceded by something like "provided that".

agree Henry Hinds : Lo que iba a decir; pero en lo de números romanos me permito opinar de lo contrario, no deben cambiarse, y se usan mucho en inglés.

neutral Jane Lamb-Ruiz (X) : sorry...action is taken just does not work for me, Maria..obrar is to strive for..action is taken is something else, IMO..The idea is that everyone should strive to do x...action is taken doesn't render that idea, does it?

The necessary safeguarding of one's own or a third party's legally

protected interest should be striven for etc

or

Passive: One should strive for the necessary safeguarding of etc.

obrarse= to strive for ...

as in the verb To practice...one should practice what one preaches..or he practices law..

Peer comment(s):

neutral Daniel Coria : Hi Jane: "obrar" in this case is just a Spanish nuance of the verb "act" as in "act accordingly" = "obrar en consecuencia". (See bilingual reference: http://www.schillerinstitute.org/lar_related/ibero_lhl_nov_2... ) Saludos/Regards!
