guidebook on Catalonia
This is from a literary text about Girona and its rivers and bridges.
Girona, el Gironés, botón de la rueda, desnuda y hermana a las otras tres comarcas. Para ir de una a la otra es necesario, lógicamente, cruzar alguno de los ríos de Girona, pasar por el puente gerundense.
UK Eng.
Thanks in advance

axis/hub of the wheel
I was going to suggest "hub", and wonder why psicutrinius didn't do so - since when I've been scratching my head.
However, "axis" (the central turning-point of the wheel, as opposed to the "axle, which is the rod that that makes it turn) will also do the trick.
But if psicutrinius were to post "hub", then I'd certainly agree with that - and think he deserves the points if this is chosen as the eventual answer...

I think you cd simply avoid any reference to wheels, and use something like the "focal point", or hub (on its own), without necessarily bringing wheels into it

many thanks darwinista! But I feel a little embarrassed because psicutrinius in fact beat me to it. Perhaps he'll post his suggestion in a minute...

: Thanks, Carol. Maybe you are right, but I got the idea as an Engineer. I "saw" the analogy in Engineering. I am out of (in my view) depth for poetry... and I would never have thought of the metaphor... which in retrospect seems to me to be better here

many thanks psicutrinius - but I still think you deserve the points, as this literal translation just happens to also work just as well in EN as a metaphor, and I would never have guessed that this wasn't how you saw it (hence my initial head scratching!)

: This is a particular technical metaphore.

many thanks solejnicz! as you say, it is technical, but works as a metaphor here

: Yep, good stuff :) Credit due to psicutrinius indeed; I too scratched my head when I read his 'hub' suggestion, and didn't want to answer as I felt I'd be 'stealing' his idea... :)
