Swedish term
byggbod
Swedish to English
Tech/Engineering
Construction / Civil Engineering
reconstruction of shopping centre
Is this a construction hut, or something else entirely? There are 8 of these temporary 'byggbodar' for this particular project, where workers will be moving in and out of the protected construction area.
Advice appreciated.

Portacabin
This can also be spelt Portakabin. Although it is actually a brand name, it has become universal, like hoover.

site hut
Site hut
Just a suggestion if you don't want to use 'portakabin', although the Swedish pictures are closely related.
http://www.healthandsafety.co.uk/sitesafchecklist.html
Is there a site hut or other accommodation where workers can sit, make tea and prepare food?
Is there adequate first aid provision?

Rest facilities
Facilities for taking breaks and meal breaks should be available. They should provide shelter from the wind and rain and be heated as necessary.They should have:
tables and chairs;
a kettle or urn for boiling water;
a means for preparing food (eg a gas or electrical heating ring, or microwave oven).
…
For small sites rest facilities can often be provided within the site office, or site hut.

: No, it does not have to be a "site hut", "Byggbod" specifies the design, not the use.

You're right, but 'site huts' can be used as everything from garden sheds to football changing rooms... I just chose a couple of examples from building sites to fit the particular question

portable modular cabin
If one does not like to use the degenerated trade name one could call it "portable modular cabin", but I would write "portacabin".

A suitable name.

Sven: When is a shed not a shed? Uncertainty is the translator's constant companion - it can rarely be shed.
Could you consider 'builder's shed' as being a 'byggbod'?

: http://www.imarest.org/ymp/branches/nec/Gallery.html - Addendum: Yes that's another valid interpretation of "building shed", but that ain't a "byggbod" either. Heard the one about Tage, Dan-Axel and the "skjul"?

Thank you Sven, but what do you say about one of Collins' definitions: ie, a small building or lean-to of light construction used for storage, shelter, etc.

site shed
Site shed is all I've ever called them, never heard the crew go to the portable modular cabin for a cuppa :-)
Then again perhaps that's the term that is looked for here.
Just another option for Helen.
