The largest room Pod Anio³ami full. Nov 16, 2005

We already have 25 people to attend a dinner. The largest room Pod Anio³ami holds 25. New registrants will make me book another room (I welcome that possibility).

Sharing taxi Nov 16, 2005

George Amolochitis wrote:

Goddag Frank,

As I can see you are arriving on Thursday 24 in Krakow at 12.30 (presumably via Copenhagen, I suppose). My wife and I are arriving at 12.00 the same day from Athens via Milano. Would you be interested to share a taxi from the Belice airport to the hotel?. I presume you are also staying in System Hotel where the Conference will take place.
Med venlig hilsen,
George

Hi George
Yes, I would be interested in sharing a taxi, and am staying at System Hotel.
Best regards
Frank

Why not? I planned to go there on Sunday on my own. Is it closed?

Exactly - so I was told by the local guide, who happens to be a university friend of my wife. Therfore we planed the tours as above.

Regards
Jerzy

PS
This applies not to the Wawel Castle and Wawel Hill - which are opened and may be visited, but you will not get into the royal chambers, where the museum is. So better plan a visit on another day.

Taxi from airport Nov 18, 2005

Wow, time flies ... conference starts next week already, it seemed so long to go when I registered.

Will there be anyone else on the flight from Gatwick with Centralwings that arrives at 13.30? Maybe we can share a taxi to the hotel (I'm at the Hotel System).

Looking forward to meeting you all

Saludos
Anna

I'd like to join you all Nov 19, 2005

Hi Robert,

Please count me in, if you can.

BTW: I arrive from Cologne-Bonn with GermanWings on the 24th at 12h10. Anybody else around at the airport at that time willing to share a taxi to the hotel?

Thursday night dinner and arrival at airport Nov 19, 2005

Robert,

Please, add me to the list of the new dinner participants (another room) if possible.

Also if anyone is arriving at Balice around 16:30 and would like to share taxi with me to Hotel System, please contact me directly through my profile.

Paola,

I am always for a cup of coffee, regardless of the dinner.
Ci vediamo!

I'll be there Nov 19, 2005

All being well, I'll join you Thursday night under the angles (that's what Pod Anio³ami means: under the angles).
I already sent Robert a mail.
For such a herd of hungry translators, I guess he'll make a reservation for all Pod Anio³ami rooms.

Travelling by train, I'll run in 8:44 AM at the Krakow Glowny station.

They will stuff another table into a room... Nov 19, 2005

... but we'll still close to filling it. And I was not sure whether to book 12 person or 25 person room at first. Today I tried to book that 12 person room IN ADDITION to 25 person room but it was booked already. I am in touch with restaurant's management and they are working on a solution (I warned them that there may be additional people coming).

Do we actually need zlotys Nov 20, 2005

Do we need to get zlotys or can we realistically use euros? I am quite sure that you could pay in euros almost everywhere, but the question is can you do so without paying a ridiculous exchange rate (change in zlotys is unavoidable I guess). Probably not I suppose.

You can change easily in every "kantor" downtown.
If you can, get some zloty at home just for the cab.
Otherwise you can get zloty from cash machines at the airport.

Would a pub in England accept Euro? Nov 20, 2005

I´m really afraid it wouldn´t.
Don´t expect Euro to be accepted in Poland.
You will need Z³oty.
However, you will be able to pay with your credit card or ec-card. If you do so, you can expect to be charged the average official exchange rate.

Regards
Jerzy

PS
I would strongly advise AGAINST the "kantor" (small exchange office, run by private people). The rate you get there is far lower than the official exchange rate, so even with the cc charge for abroad use you get more money. My family and me are reularly in Cracow and this is the experience we made.
