(edited) I just finished a 2-day event for Jeunesse University. A very enthusiastic and motivational and informative event with many attractive give-aways interspersed throughout the event, with two doctors explaining the science behind their products (this part was hard with scientific names) and many motivational double diamonds or diamonds speakers. English-Chinese and vice-versa I just finished a three-day APAC update training of Jo Malone's education ambassadors in Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I did whispering interpreting to four Chinese participants. It wasn't so much whispering because they were four and I had to speak quite loud for all four to hear me. Got a gift from Jo Malone at the end! Translated the company profile of a vacation planner, from English to Chinese, to be used for presentation in China. doing the copy for the company profile of gold jewellery brand - need elegant and exclusive language - 28 pages Translating the subtitle of a corporate video for a media company, English to Chinese, around 700 words. Just finished a project with Indah Water training programme as their CI interpreter for a 5-person delegation from Senegal. Glossary was a must. But as French is my third working language, I found myself lacking the beautiful structures/ words while interpreting and was able to only interpret the essential points, in extremely simple structures and with repetitive connection words. For lack of practice, the fluidity didn't come naturally. French is such a beautiful language, I felt I didn't do justice to it. Other than the lacking aesthetic value, it was difficult as well due to its technicality. I kinda survived it thanks to the memorized glossary. At times, I was speaking about something that didn't make sense to myself technically, but at the sight of the nodding of my listeners I was relieved. There were a lot of reconciliation of the terms used that needed to be done in the first two sessions. Thank God, the delegates were happy with my service and the honour was mine to have served as the bridge in the partnership between two countries and have made some friends from West Africa!
(edited) I did a (difficult) SI for KLIAW (International Arbitration Week) 2017 from 15-17 May 2017 at KLRCA. Thanks to earlier prepared glossary, I was able to interpret some of the otherwise incomprehensible speeches due to its technicality. There were some speakers who were difficult to follow and interpret, notably one honourable Jurist with his prepared speech full of philosophical quotes from around the world, and whose speech was not passed to us earlier. I felt priviledged but also motivated to work and practice even harder. To deliver every single word/notion/ message spoken and become worthy of trust of our listeners.
(edited) Did conference interpreting for Mary Kay Career Conference and doTerra's Malaysia market launch
(edited) I did copywriting for the ads of Fanta and Coke, of Malaysian Chinese version.
(edited) I did French-English simultaneous interpreting for Intergovernmental Council of MOST (UNESCO). Most of the delegates spoke in English, so my work was really light. I interpreted for only a few minutes for four days. But I learned a lot from my Eng-Fr colleagues who are professional interpreters. And also that I need to improve so much! Especially the UN terms and the names of countries and associations. This is certainly one of the milestones in my career as a translator/interpreter. Really glad and honored to have been part of it.
