English term or phrase: nigger
¡Hola! ¿Cuál sería para vosotros una buena traducción de "nigger"?

Estos serían los contextos:

"In her references to blacks, she spared no invective, especially in her subsequent La négresse blanche, where black men are typically referred to as “niggers” and black women as “nigger whores” and “sluts.”

Más complicado se pone en este caso...

"Capécia characterized these populations as “France’s whiteys,” “Martinican whiteys,”“ mulattoes,” and “niggers.” (In Jamaica, an Anglophone island, one hears of “whites,” “white neeygas” [“white niggers”], “browns” and “coolies,” and “blacks” and “neeygas.”)

Gracias!!!

nigger

Explanation:
You could translate it but it wouldn't be the same. Unlike the word 'negro', which may not always be offensive, 'nigger' is today an EXTREMELY offensive word. Throughout the history of the United States, and still today, the word has had a number of different connotations, and the word is still heavily charged sociologically, historically and anthropologically. Since your text seems to be academic or informative, I'd used the word in English and add a Translator's note.

PS. This question should have been marked as offensive.

negro de mierda

Explanation:
"nigger" in the usa in my opinion is a relic from the days of slavery with a very strong negative connotation.not simply negro etc. I think that if said by someone that was not african american great offence might be taken.

I dont agree that there is anything "sumamente ofensivo" about someone being or being called negro in spanish or english

“Nigger: it is arguably the most consequential social insult in American History, though, at the same time, a word that reminds us of ‘the ironies and dilemmas, tragedies and glories of the American experience’” (Kennedy 1).

Harvard Law Professor Randall Kennedy’s book Nigger: The Strange Career of a Troublesome Word is at the center of debate because of its controversy. It addresses questions among a diverse audience of students and scholars of all racial and ethnic backgrounds in its quest to discover how and why the word should or should not be used in modern day America.

As a black American male, the word nigger conjures up within me hate, hostility, violence, oppression, and a very shameful and unfortunate part of American History. The word symbolizes the everlasting chains of a people plagued with hate and bondage simply because of skin color. For many black people, including myself, nigger is the most pejorative word in the English language. Even when compared to racial slurs like kike, honkey, cracker, wet back, spic, jungle bunny, pod, tarbaby, and white trash, nigger is noted as the worst insult in the English language. The word nigger suggests that black people are second class citizens, ignorant and less than human.
