In this passage the author talks about her Iranian husband’s admission of possible infertility resulting from a disease which he had had treated too late owing to feelings of shame.

Nasıl unutabilirdim ki? Nişanlıyken söylemişti. Donup kalmıştım. Aklımı ve gözümü bağlayan aşk mıydı; eksiliğini itiraf eden bir insanı yarı yolda bırakamama fedailiği miydi bilemiyorum ama, hemen toparlanıp "Olsun! ‘Belki’ diyorsun. Belki de olur!" diye bardağın dolu yanıyla yanıtlamıştım.
