Spanish term

Hacer mujer

Spanish to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature
Hello everybody,

I am trying to translate a text from Spanish into English (UK) which has the following sentence:

"No encuentro un hombre que me haga mujer"

Does anyone know if there is any idiom or expression in English which has the same meaning as "hacer mujer"?

Thank you very much.

Context? It is very interesting to look at examples of this expression on the Internet. It seems to be used in various contexts. It can be said by:

A woman looking for a man who will appreciate her femininity and fulfil her emotionally and/or sexually.

A young woman wanting a man who will make her feel grown up (usually, again, sexually).

There are also some lesbian examples (a woman looking for a woman "que me haga mujer"), and many male gay ones: a man looking for a man "que me haga mujer".

It is not always used with sexual connotations, but it often is. It seems to me that in some contexts "make a woman of me" would be more suitable, and in others, "make me feel like a woman".

makes me feel like a woman

Suggestion. There are a lot of instances for this coming up on Google. Also an expression used in various songs.

I've never found a man who made me feel like a woman. / I'm yet to find a man who makes me feel like a woman.

agree Edward Tully : good option; more romantic, spiritual etc.//Roberta Flack's version was better ;-)

Cheers, Edward :)
agree Charles Davis : "You make me feel like a natural woman" (Aretha Franklin). This could well be what it implies.

Thanks, Charles! That's the one! There's also Shania Twain with 'Man, I feel like a woman'.

neutral Maria Arlandis : Sometimes "hacer mujer" can mean loose the virginity, but I don't know if it's like that here, because I don't know the context....

Hi Marpier, it might but wouldn't that suggest in this context that she can't find a man who wants to sleep with her? Doesn't seem likely!

I think it has a similar equivalent in English.
