wireless ou sem fio?

I have a team of several translators under my supervision, three of them Brazilian. Two of them translate wireless as sem fio. The other leaves wireless in English, and says that it is how it is used in Brazil. I would like to standarize the usage of some words to have consistency in the department. So which is it? Wireless o sem fio?

The term \"wireless\" is known all over Brazil as \"sem fio\".

Here are some examples:

wireless link - conexão sem fio

wireless interface - interface sem fio

wireless device - dispositivo sem fio

wireless communication - comunicação sem fio

wireless telephony - telefonia sem fio



The term \"sem fio\" is exactly the same as \"inalámbrico(s) in Spanih).

Não há razão para usar wireless, pois a expressão \"sem fio\" (ou sem-fio, com hífen, na opinião de alguns) é amplamente usada, tanto no Brasil como em Portugal. Verifique no Google.

dizemos em todos os casos que indica \"sem fios\" - no plural.

Não sei se ajuda muito, mas é como se diz neste lado no Atlântico.

Wireless is known for almost everybody in Brazil but the correct in portuguese is \"sem fio\", so the translation of wireless is sem fio

There is absolutely NO REASON to use the expression in English when there is an exact Portuguese translation.



You should check the rest of your translator\'s work. If they are not professional translators, if they do not live in Brazil or work in the area they are translating, people tend to view their own restricted and contaminated vocabulary as generally accepted.
