Según entiendo, el sistema escolar en EEUU (no sé si el texto es de este país) está dividido en elementary school (1º a 5º), middle school (6º a 8º), junior high (7º y 8º, denominado así porque precede al high school) y high school (9º a 12º, que en mi país se conoce como secundaria o enseñanza media). En todo caso las divisiones varían :-/

This is meant as a hybrid, to ease the transition from elementary school to high school for students. Sometimes they are called Intermediate schools (...)
