а чтобы объяснить медицинскую полезность и приятность процедуры попариться с веником в русском стиле. И по сути это действительно вариант техники массажа. Удачи

: "spanking by twigs" sounds a lot healthier than "beating with a broom" ...

thank you. The most important that it is a good version of massage and, especially, self-massage

: Well... "birch branches/twigs", I think... if someone beat me with a broom I'd be rather concerned!! > Fair enough! :)

I agree with your comments, but "broom" is how it´s described in some sources :)

: with Peter, "beat" is right verb (my brother who knows no Russian just came and used "beat" to describe what they do in the banya), but "broom" is a little concerning indeed. "birch branches/twigs" would be my preference, too.

Well, the truth is that for me the banya´s broom has much in common with that of the street cleaners (they used to make brooms from the fresh branches of trees). And by the way, the best broom for banya is made of oak twigs ;)

: Take a steam bath doesnt convey the idea of going anywhere that for some is almost a ritual - take a bath means run a bath and get a wash. Cf "Ponymayete, u nas tradytsyya. My s druzyami kazhdyy god KHODIM v banu." Also a broom sounds odd in this context.

Have a proper cleansing (of body, heart or soul)
Steam helps to clean the clogged pores through which we sweat. Thus, cleansing by steam bath and that too with birch twigs, with one person helping the other - (like I scratch yours, you scratch my back) leaves them refreshed and clean.
