French term

résultat d'éxploitation à périmètre et taux de change inchangés

Homework / test French to English Bus/Financial Business/Commerce (general)
Sorry but a long-winded question here, brace yourselves!

En ce qui concerne l'exercice en cours, Bernard Kasriel, le directeur général, et donc, le véritable patron de XXX, a confirmé l'objectif d'une croissance de 6% à 8% du résultat d'exploitation à périmètre et taux de change inchangés.

Two questions:

1 - Does the first part of the sentence mean that Bernard Kasriel is the real boss of the company in matters related to the stock market because he is managing director?

2 - does the last part mean a 6 to 8% increase in operating profits based on the presumption of no changes in exchange rates? I'm not sure at all what 'à périmètre' refers to.

Thanks.

DipTrans Exam 2006 confirmed. KudoZ question reclassified to "This question was taken from a translation test (or from homework)" Please note, also, http://www.proz.com/siterules/kudoz_asking/2.3#2.3 - one term per question.

Michael GREEN Dec 13, 2007:
I think the answer to your first question (Rob has already answered the 2nd) is "with regard to the current financial year, BK, who as GM is the real boss of XXX, confirmed the target of ... etc"

operating profit assuming no changes in company structure or exchange rates

This is two questions and should be posted as such. I'll answer the second one.

"Périmètre" refers to the scope of a company or, more usually, a group of companies. So "à périmètre inchangé" means something along the lines of "assuming no changes in the make-up of the group". You could say something like "assuming no changes in company structure or exchange rates".

neutral rkillings : Not so much assuming a counterfactual, but backing out the contributions to profit or loss attributable to changes in consolidation structure ("scope") and in exchange rates. "Like-for-like", but with specificity.

I agree you could replace "company structure" with "consolidation scope" in my answer - although the meaning is arguably less clear to non-initiates!

operating income at constant scope and exchange rates

the way I use to put it...

I agree with Rob for the expl.

The point on DG is probably due to a change a few years ago in France regulation that part the former PDG (i.e. chairman of the board and CEO/DG) into a President and a DG, although it is still possible to have the same person in the two functions.
