Spanish term

rendida a los pies del cerro

Spanish to English Other Tourism & Travel descripción de paisaje
me gustaría una traducción metafórica (como es la idea en español) que la estancia se rinde a la inmensidad del paisaje...va la frase por el contexto..
La granja xxx *rendida a los pies de majestuosos cerros* de hasta 2800mts.

Apr 11, 2008 20:39: bcsantos changed "Level" from "Non-PRO" to "PRO"

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

PRO (3): Janine Libbey, Remy Arce, bcsantos

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

agree Sp-EnTranslator : I like "foothills of the mountains"> "Resting at the foothill of the mountains" could be an option here, too.

kneels at the feet of the mountainsides

Not entirely convinced because of the "at the foot/feet of" problem, but something to start off with anyway. Also, I've given you a finite verb whereas your original was a participle...(but the sentence is not complete, so I don't know quite how to resolve it).

carved/nestled/tucked into the feet of the mountains

I like kneel as a good place to start, but the metaphor of a kneeling farm is a bit of a stretch for me.

Depending on the mood you want to create:

"tucked in among the feet of the majestic 2800m mountains"
might be a good start.

,lying submissively at the foot of the hills,

XXX, lying submissively at the foot of the majestic hills, towering above up to 2,800 m.

But I agree with Noni - this is a fragment, and you get better results when you give the entire sentence.

nestles beneath the peaks

OR: nestles at the foot of the peaks, nestles in the foothills of the peaks;

It doesn't sound right to me to say that a farm "kneels".

I think the original has a sense of the immensity of the mountains in comparison with the farm.

You also need an adjective like majestic/magnificent/towering.

lying at the mercy of the majestic hills

In English the expression means to throw oneself at the mercy of.

situated at the foot of the hills

cerro is more like a hill and the word 'rendida' points to the Geographical location, I think.

sitting at the feet of the mountains

The following I'm adding only to backup Scott Alexander's suggestion and -by extension - my agree, it's a beautiful piece of text found at http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cache:3l3xK7Wo_bYJ:www.bearwa... Please read on:

"I finally found the old house, and it was nothing if not head-a-the-hollar.
As a matter of fact, it was beyond head-a-the-hollar. Miles from nowhere, it was surrounded by trees- no real yard to call it’s own. I liked the way the house sat, resting at the foothills of the mountain like it had been born there; the bi-product of some cosmic belch. It leaned heavily into the side of the mountain where it had been conjoined with it’s earth sister since what I believe was the beginning of time. There was a sign on a post out front of the old house that read #22 Mourning Dove Lane, that and even the door that had been painted the brightest shade of electric blue didn’t seem out of place."
