I answer you in my answer space since our conversation here is a bit OT... :)
Ellen Kraus Jun 12, 2008:
Am sorry indeed for this oversight of mine. I´ve read the entire article, find it elucidating. nonetheless I still wouldn´t be able to explain in other words what reclutante means. The word exists that´s clear now, but where do I find its translation ? th
Mirra_ Jun 12, 2008:
Yes, there is and I even reported it in my answer.... ;)
Ellen Kraus Jun 12, 2008:
It is with interest that I read the explanations given with regard to recruitment. but is there any hint to the adjective reclutante? and andamento obviously is the process occuring.

Well... I guess you're not talking about CT scan but about EEG results, and

it's this :)

Also, to ease comprhension...
check this

In few words... during the tonic phase the electrical activity increases as more and more similar adiacent brain areas become activated. And since the electrical activity of all the involved areas follows a rithmic pattern - that increases as the number of arease increases - it is called 'recruiting rythm'

I would also like to add that this 'andamento reclutante' it's a very very specific expression for the EEG results produced by epileptic brain anomalies (or other anomalies alike). And its right specific translation is just 'recruiting rythm'.

For Ellen:

from the Hazon Dictionary

Reclutare:

Traduzione v.tr.
1 (mil.) to recruit, to enlist
2 (estens.) (ingaggiare) to recruit, to hire, to engage; to take*on: - personale ben qualificato, to recruit well-qualified staff; - manodopera stagionale, to hire seasonal labour; la squadra ha reclutato un calciatore straniero, the (football) team has taken on a foreign player / il nuovo partito potrebbe - molti giovani, the new party could appeal to many young people

Moreover, the verb 'to recruit/reclutare' has a very specific meaning in neurobiology since it refers to the processes in which more and more neurons become active at the some time

agree Pnina : recruitment is a serial discharge from neurons innervating groups of muscle fibers.

thank you
disagree Mirra_ : In general and even more in neurology, 'andamento' *specifically* refers to changes related to time and mode (e.g. intensity)(i.e. trend/progression/rythm), not to space/spatial distribution (or space-related items e.g. somatic symptoms)(i.e. pattern).

I believe what is meant here, is reluctante ! the process occurs reluctantly

or: is proceeding reluctantly
Peer comment(s):

neutral TrishCivitella : "reluctant" in Italian is "riluttante"...
