It is a typographical term. I add here an explanation of what it is. I understood what it is, but I really don't know how it is called in Italian!
"The definition for a "COUNTER" is the lower space in a Baskerville g is a counter. The upper is also.
You may also refer to the two harbors created by an S as counters. Even if it is enclosed by a bowl it is a counter. A bowl is the black shape enclosing a counter, a counter is the white space bounded by a bowl, or by a terminal, or by any other stroke.

I have unleashed my printing friends to ensure you get as close as possible to this highly technical term.
So far they have suggested "vuoto aperto", which is what they call the space in an open "g", or an "s".
They are now checking a specific handbook to see if there's anything better, but they tell me that if someone mentions "vuoto" to them they know it refers to the round space that you describe.

Nel Dizionario del grafico (Giorgio Fioravanti) alla voce "Carattere" c'è una bella tabella che illustra i particolari del disegno dei caratteri. Da qui, ho trovato "occhiello" (con l'illustrazione della parte "chiusa" di una "a" minuscola). Sotto "occhiello" trovo poi al 3o significato: "parte vuota che si forma all'interno di alcune lettere, come per esempio all'interno di "a", "e", "g". E' detto anche "asola". Siccome nel tuo caso per la "g" e la "s" questo occhiello non è chiuso, lo chiamerei appunto "occhiello aperto" o "asola aperta".
