I'm translating a magazine article from Spanish to (British) English for young women about celebrities' fashion-faux pas. This is a sub-title for one of the sections of the article, and it's obviously a play on words with the well-known 'Wonderbra'. However, in Spanish 'Wonderbraga' works well, but I don't think 'Wonderknicker girls' works as well in English.

The reason I personally like "wonderbrief" is a) that it retains the similarity of sounds of bra and bragas/briefs, as both begin with BR and b) that it retains the notion of underwear.
Using knickers would be appropriate - but you lose the effect produced by bra and bragas.

If you have a heading somehwher that refers to "wonderbra girls", then you would need to try and maintain the symmetry and say "wonder------ girls". However, if you didn't neet to maintain that symmetry (the upper and lower undergarments), I think Rachel's suggestion - wonderbraggers - is terrific, as it transmits the wonderbra idea but also the showiness/vacuity of celebrities.

| Thanks for your fantastic answer...I think I'm going to go with 'knickers' though, just because I haven't got anything to compare with, such as 'Wonderbra', and even though 'wonderbraggers' sounds great (because of the connotations between the 'bra' in the Spanish original and with 'bragas'), I think I'm going to go with 'knickers'...so how would you put it? Depending on the connotation this might work....that is if it's being dismissive or insulting, etc.

: I like your suggestion. It keeps the "wonderbra-" root (so to speak). You don't have to be literal (and in most cases, you just can't) when translating. We translate concepts, not words. You get my vote :)

Wonder-drawers girls
Since this is for a British audience and its about their 'antics' and all, perhaps 'those Wonder-Drawers girls' would serve; it would be a play on the also-dated 'underdrawers' formerly used for (not necessarily feminine) intimate apparel.
