Il termine escalare decisamente non mi piace in italiano (anche se riconosco la sua valenza tecnica), ragion per cui accetto di buon grado l'ottima proposta (purtroppo non circostanziata e spiegata) di Rick, che mi sembra, a quanto capisco dalla spiegazione di Paola, proprio il termine giusto e comprensibile ad un italiano medio.

I agree that literally escalate means \"intensificare/aumentare\". The problem with using it in this specific case is that it is followed by defects (difetti/imperfezione). To my ears, intensificano i difetti riportati just doesn\'t carry over well. Maybe if you changed the word order a bit intensificare could work, though.
