German term

KHE-3

German to English Medical Medical: Cardiology
In a report form a herzzentrum regarding a patient with extensive coronary heart disease, the following acronym appears:

Is KHE-3 = triple vessel disease or grade III coronary heart disease?

Discussion

Steffen Walter May 18, 2010:
@ Anne and David As far as I recall, I've only ever seen this abbreviation used to refer to a three-vessel disease (koronare Dreigefäßerkrankung), rather than expressing a stage/grade.
Anne Schulz May 18, 2010:
undefined In colloquial talk you would say "KHE 3" for grade III CHD, but I don't think the abbreviation is well enough defined to be sure that it is not 3-vessel disease in this case. How about "CHD-3", with a translator's note?
J. Pieter Mielekamp May 18, 2010:

Maybe this helps:

three-vessel disease

In my mind there is no doubt. It is not usual to 'grade' CAD. I'd bet they mean multi-vessel disease [ especially b/c they talk about occlusion later on], in this case 3-vessel disease. Nut not 'triple'!
