German to English Medical Medical: Pharmaceuticals medical report
"Therapie mit Dexamethason-Stössen."

Bullet point in Swiss hospital report for patient with cancer, so am that this is Swiss usage.
I have found two possibilities in my various dictionaries: 1 injection, 2 highly dosed.

to complicate things, elsewhere in the text "Dexamethason-Puls-Therapie Feb 06 - Aug06 (insgesamt ca. 8 Stösse)", which appears before the instance I've entered for this question. So now the question arises: were both "pulse therapy", or was one of them a "high-dose therapy". I may have to ask the contractor to clarify this, as otherwise we'll be guessing till the cows come home...

In diesem Kontext (Onkologie) halte ich eine (i.v./Tabletten.)-Stoßtherapie für wahrscheinlicher. Der Patient wird ja vermutlich stationär behandelt und die Mengen, die ich beim Googeln im Zusammenhang mit Dexamethason und "Stoß" gefunden habe, sind relativ hoch (40 mg); mit einem Inhalativ würde man das vermutlich nicht erreichen; Dexamethason als Aerosol (siehe auch Haralds Link) wird wohl auch eher bei Atemwegsproblemen verwendet.
Aber beim Kunden nachfragen kann nicht schaden.

@Harald elderly patient has a whole host of problems including multiple myeloma with progressing tumor status, Erythronodöse Hautveränderung im Gesicht , Polyneuropathie, Spondylolisthesis, Signifikanter Knochendichte-Verlust im Bereich der LWS, Reaktive Schwellung des Daumensattelgelenkes to name but a few, for which he received several chemotherapy drugs, blood thinners among others.

Do you have additional information, i.e. concomitant diseases, medication etc.?

Both options are valid, e.g. see:
"...Recommended dosage is three puffs 3 or 4 times per day. The side effects of dexamethasone are similar to those of other steroids..."

It seems that the term Stoßtherapie and Pulstherapie are used synonymously in German:

agree SJLD : could well be - if the high dose dex Rx is repeated - but I think Stoßtherapie can be a one-off as well
