Change log

Apr 16, 2011 18:37: LanaUK changed "Level" from "Non-PRO" to "PRO"

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

PRO (3): Natalie, Alexander Onishko, LanaUK

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

Michael Korovkin Apr 17, 2011:
I don't mind at all, though de gustibus non disputandum est
Kiwiland Bear Apr 17, 2011:
Better not go THAT way :-) .
Michael Korovkin Apr 17, 2011:
i had a friend gynecologist, we used to call him "Lucky Fingers"...
Kiwiland Bear Apr 17, 2011:
Ah, but that's different Pretty much what I meant actually.

Your example with fridge includes (literally) your fingertips - when you open your fridge the treats are there, right at your fingertips! This is why I thought of internet browsing for instance where they would be just one click away (another typical expression for that).

However, I have difficulty visualising what your fingertips got to do with a beach or holiday resort temptations.
rikka Apr 17, 2011:
The expression seems not uncommon, compare: "Bunny has changed their containers so that you can have this treat at your fingertips when opening the freezer", so, after comparing it with the link provided by Alexander: "The /place/ sits on a private beach offering rich leisure facilities", i`d say the temptation+fingertips refer to the fact that you can get the whole of the fun without leaving the premises; nothing to do with the booking, imho
Kiwiland Bear Apr 16, 2011:
Could you provide some more context please? This usage doesn't look common or ordinary to me. Is it intenet shopping related per chance? (Including shopping for a holiday resort). What's the source? I doubt it is really general conversation. Some promotional material perhaps?

Большое спасибо!
neutral Kiwiland Bear : But why "fingertips"? You can use a much more common "around/behind every corner" if you wanted to say that.

ссылку) и признаться, не уверен, что at your fingertips относится к temptation.

that's what "at the fingertips" actually means
Peer comment(s):
