German term
Kernbereich und Erweiterungsbereich
German to English
Social Sciences
Education / Pedagogy
Hi all
I am translating a grade transcript from a Höhere Lehranstalt für wirtschaftliche Berufe und Tourismus. The subjects studied have been divided into 'Kernbereich' (which I think would be translated as 'core areas') and 'Erweiterungsbereich'. I would appreciate any advice on how to translate these.
Thank you.

core and supplementary/specialist subjects
'Kernbereich' describes the core subject area, or key subjects, and 'Erweiterungsbereich' refers to subject areas that extend beyond the core subject areas and are known as supplementary or specialist subjects, which may or not be optional.
If you are still in the catering industry domain, the core subject may be kitchen management and food service, while supplementary subjects may be nutrition, food hygiene, bar service, health and safety etc.

Kings Way has a variety of essential reference books for both core and supplementary subjects

All students take the Core subjects and the specialist units for the strand. They may be able to transfer between strands at the completion of Level 1

basic/core and extensive/extended studies
According the dictionaries. There is a better word for "core" studies, that isn't in the dictionary, but it just won't come to me right now.

: Sorry Ramey, I'm not too sure about extensive/extended. This implies to me that the studies are extended in duration, rather than in content.
