Herr X verlässt uns auf eigenen Wunsch, um sich beruflich neu zu orientieren.
Beruflich Neuorientierung wäre evtl. "professional reorientation", aber wie bringe ich das elegant in den folgenden Satz?

... to professionally orientate himself new (klingt seeehr komisch, finde ich.).

Well, the German "sich beruflich neu orientieren" is very often equivalent to just that situation, i.e. to look for opportunities without having specific plans. This all the more applies to such a sentence in an "Arbeitszeugnis".
