French term

volumétrie pliée

French to English Other Architecture renovation of a building

I know volumétrie means massing so "folded massing" which means nothing to me. Any ideas would greatly appreciated.

folded masses

architects talk of "masses" to mean the global disposition and volumes of buildings on a given site, (a kind a "blurred" overall picture of the whole site) so "volumétrie pliée" would refer to a building that has a folded "general shape" (an "L" shaped building, for example)

folded volume

This is how the site was translated. No credit and no responsibility.

The folded volume allows to dodge the existing oaks which multiply the views of the wooded landscape.

folded structure

I don't disagree with Simon's literal rendition, but I think this sounds a bit more natural.

sloped volume

or faceted, especially for glazing.

folded space

Another alternative. Architects like to talk about spaces...

All suggested answers with "folded" are possible, IMHO

This article, on folding in architecture, refers to volumes, structures, and space:

Thanks. I think the notion of "image métaphorique" of the folds is significant here, as well.
