biologiste de validation

French to English Medical Medical (general) medical report
Hello colleagues,

I'm stumped here. I don't think we have an equivalent for this term in English. At the several labs I've worked in, the medical technologists validate and release lab results.

In this medical report, at the bottom of each page of lab results, we see either:
Validé par Dr. XXX, biologiste de validation (or)
Validé par YYY*, biologiste de validation (or)
Validé par biologiste de validation

There is also a note saying:
*Les internes valident sous la responsabilité du chef de service

Is anyone familiar with this term?

@Mustapha. Thank you for your response. I'm sure you're right; however, the term "Validation Biologist" or "Validation Scientist," is really not used in the context of a medical laboratory (this is for US English.) It would probably convey the proper concept, but I will continue to think about this and do a bit more research on the typical term for this position. (Also, the validator is sometimes a professor, who would not have a PhD.)

This position is generally referred to as a Validation Scientist, depending on the field they work in. In the present context, the scientist is a biologist. The title "Dr." means he is a holder of a PhD in biology. That's all there is to it.

I initially considered "pathologist," but the person doing the validating does not always have "Dr." as a title. There is sometimes an * to indicate that the person doing the validating is an intern, but sometimes it just says "biologiste de validation" with no name, which means it might also be a laboratorian who is approved to validate.

I suspect that the "Dr." is a "biologiste médical", that is, a clinical pathologist.

Debra Leonard: From early pathology practice, pathologists and laboratory directors have validated tests, defined interpretive criteria, and assured the quality of tests performed in their clinical laboratories. This is a pathologist's medical practice, which does not fall under the regulatory purview of the FDA. While this may seem like a radical statement, one must consider whether FDA clearance or approval achieves better test performance and higher quality than LDTs developed under CLIA. In the SACGHS 2008 report on oversight of genetic testing, no evidence of harm from LDTs was identified, with the College of American Pathologists (CAP) presenting evidence of good performance of LDTs in their proficiency-testing programs
