French term

Responsable de secteur

French to English Medical Medical (general) Swiss letterhead
Hi,

I have a new letterhead from the Geneva University Hospitals from the General Internal Medicine Division.
Most of the doctors on this list are either "Médecin-adjoint agrégé/Responsable de secteur" or "Médecin-adjoint/Responsable de secteur"

I have already asked a question regarding "Médecin-adjoint agrégé" and now need help with "Responsable de secteur"

This is for the US.

Thanks

Joanna

Responsible for a section

Each has the responsibility of supervising a section.
Peer comment(s):

neutral liz askew : Trouble is we just wouldn't say or use this in English, it's too long-winded

neutral Jennifer White : with Liz - we wouldn't say that.

Area manager/ess; divisional officer

It is le or la responsable as a noun for someone who in charge of (EEC/ EU FRE/ENG glossary from 1990 = an officer) and not as an adjective.

NB the feminine form of manager is manageress.
Peer comment(s):

neutral philgoddard : So a manageress is a woman in a man's job, right?
14 mins
Could be a man in a woman's job, even though Médecine-adjointe is not mentioned..

head of unit

At the Geneva University Hospitals, "secteurs" are thematic divisions, e.g. cardiovascular, neuroreanimation, etc. On an administrative levels, there are formalised in units, with a practicien in charge. "responsible" is not quite the right translation for "responsable". It is more "head of"
