French term

numération globulaire vs formule sanguine

French to English Medical Medical (general)
Can someone please tell me what the difference is between these 2, as I would probably have translated both as "CBC" or "FBC"?

This is from a blood test results table:

NG: Hématies
NG: Hémoglobine
NG: Hématocrite
NG: VGM

FS: PN (%)
FS: PE (%)
FS: PB (%)
FS: Lymphocytes (%)
FS: Monocytes (%)

etc...

Thanks!

Blood film would be frottis.

Thanks Pennylyd, I used your answer. Thanks! Please can you post it as an answer so I can close this?
Anne Schulz Aug 20, 2019:
I agree with pennylyd. NG for the (automated) blood count, and FS for the differential by smear. (If so, your "NG" should also list total leukocyte and platelet counts.)
pennylyd Aug 16, 2019:
Could FS not be frottis sanguine (blood film, as this determines the percentages of WBCs in blood see:

However, having sent in these findings
The numeration globulaire lists
Hématies Hémoglobine Hématocrit VGM

so logically, red cells!! so DRmanu would be correct.

How strange I found something else, or perhaps I have misunderstood??

What is a complete blood count?
A complete blood count (CBC) is a blood test that is commonly ordered by doctors. A CBC is often ordered as part of a complete physical or when your doctor thinks you might have a certain condition, such as an infection. A CBC may also be done to check on levels of prescribed medications in the body.

The test (which actually consists of several tests) gives details about three types of blood cells: red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. The CBC reports how many cells there are in the blood, and the physical characteristics of the cells, such as size, shape, and content.

Complete/Full Blood Count (CBC/FBC) n. numération formule sanguine (NFS). [Med.] Usually requested by the doctor for the laboratory to draw the blood from the patient.

complete blood count vs blood film

see discussion entry - FS = frottis sanguine
Peer comment(s):

disagree Drmanu49 : Blood film would be frottis./Frottis is not synonymous with formule sanguine. It is a technique used to detect abnormal RBC shape for example.

yes - frottis sanguine (FS) - not sure why you disagree? This determines the relative percentages of the WBCs, which is what is shown here. and is frequently performed with a complete blood count - as here

Red blood (cell) count vs hemogram (CBC)

The Hemogram gives more information than just red blood cell count .

White blood cell count, red blood cells count, platelet count versus full blood count

Well, this is my understanding:

https://www.myeloma.org.uk/understanding-myeloma/diagnosis/

numeration globulaire =

Red blood cell count: a low count shows you are anaemic
White blood cell counts: low counts of some or all of the different white blood cells indicate you are at greater risk of infection
Platelet count: a low count shows you are at an increased risk of bleeding or bruising more easily than normal
