"Такая зарплата -- все куры давно со смеху померли. Ходила в магазин – нету курей! Говорят – куриный грипп, а я так думаю, что со смеху..."

And my pay/salary could make a chicken laugh itself to death. I went shopping and they had no chickens on stock. They say it's chicken flu but I think all chickens did die from laughing (out loud).

: Definitely better. I would substitute "apy/salary" for "paycheck" maybe, though there are no paychecks in Russia but it's just more understandable for English readers.
