(biauricular) otopiesis
Generally, you need not add \"biauricular(双耳的)\" ,otopiesis=鼓膜内陷(汉英医学大词典)

: Morning.... :) I found "otopiesis" in my dictionary (简明英汉汉英医学词典) too, but if you google this term, you get only non-English sites... weird.

Thanks! It’s a not-too-often-used word, perhaps from German. But surely it is used. : )

tympanic membrane retraction
tympanic membrane retraction
A retraction pocket is when part of the tympanic membrane becomes weakened and is sucked inwards by a negative pressure within the middle ear. This permits it to drape itself over the small bones which conduct sound (ossicles) as well as the inner most or medial wall of the middle ear. As a result of repeated infections, erosion of the ossicles may occur leading to significant deafness or worse still, a cholesteatoma (skin growing within the middle ear) may result. It has been defined as having three grades from a simple early retraction not touching anything within the middle ear cleft, Grade II when it is draped over the small bones of the ears, and Grade III when it has retracted to the medial wall of the middle wall either with the ability to elevate it without difficulty or in Grade III (b) when it is stuck to the medial wall of the middle ear.

Otitis media with effusion (OME) is common among children with cleft palate, and may lead to such long-term consequences as hearing loss, tympanic memberane retraction, and chronic otitis media (COM).

Otoscopic examination alone is often not adequate for identifying tympanic membrane retraction.
