I'm looking for an English translation of the word "Ordnungsverfugung" in this CONTEXT: "Der viel häufigere Fall ist die mittelbare Vertretung einer Konfliktpartei durch die Behörde bzw. durch den Staat. Geben die Ermittlungen Anlass zu einer Ordnungsverfügung und legt die betroffene Konfliktpartei Widerspruch dagegen ein..." i.e. does this simply mean "an order of court" or is it more than this?

administrative order
Hi Sue, it is an order but not by the courts. Administrative authorities/agencies are also authorised to issue orders, such as noise abatement notices, hence administrative order. Where such orders are not complied with, the recipient may be fined or penalised in some other way (e.g. confiscation of equipment used to generated the nuisance in question).

Ooops - to \"generate\", that is. Government authorities have a wide range of powers to enforce compliance with their orders, the (administrative) courts only come in if the recipient lodges an objection/appeal against a notice served.

Comment: "Many thanks Beate for both the translation and excellent explanation - send back some sunshine from over that ditch"

but if the court is not involved, it could be:

Unsure what the neighbourhood disputes are and whether this term would work across Cook' Sound.
