A general description of the machinery
The Airlock Screw Feeder is a horizontal screw conveyor that provides a means to limit the amount of air en-tering and leaving the Chip Bin. The last ½ flight before the discharge is left off the conveyor. The assembly also contains an internal Gate Assembly that hinders the flow of chips into the discharge nozzle. These two features force the chips to form a plug in the housing at the discharge nozzle. The chip plug makes it difficult for the gases to flow in or out of the Chip Bin and it also condenses any steam that may try to leave the Chip Bin.
A second benefit of this type of ***airlock is that the chips tend to be more centered in the Chip Bin and tend to form a more uniform chip pile in the Chip Bin.
