[questions that would help sales force to sell this refacing application]

"Qualification Questions:
- Are system screens part of your 5250 applications that you want to Web-enable?
- Do you need to integrate Web-enabled 5250 applications into a Portal?

5250 is used on AS/400 computers. Not quite so old. This is a real trip down memory lane!

neutral JeffFish (X) : you use 5250 screens for 5250 applications, which ran on a mainframe

agree Peter Linton (X) : David is surely right to call it a computer screen, which is exactly what it was. And perhaps more formally, it is also a block-oriented terminal protocol that defines how the application is displatyed on a 5250 screen/terminal.

Leave it as it is. 3270 is another type of mainframe environment. Can be ported to newer systems:

neutral Peter Linton (X) : Surely a Telnet 5250 emulator merely enables a non-IBM terminal (eg a Unix workstation or PC) to display data from an IBM mainfram application, using the TCP/IP Telnet protocol. A true IBMer would use a proper 5250 terminal, not stoop to using a PC.
