Challenged by Jim in the Democratic Party primary in the summer of 1956, Governor Orval Faubus, citing his work in traveling to Washington and getting the congressional team¡¯s signatures for the Southern Manifesto, won renomination----but with 80,000votes cast for his antisegregation opponent, the writing is on the wall.
