French term
carte comptoir
French to English
Marketing
Cosmetics, Beauty
Votre prépack contient:
Présentoir de comptoir
Carte comptoir
(etc.)
The three lines (and more) are from the source text.
This is a cosmetics company from France which does business in Canada. They are sending pre-packs to cosmetics counters in pharmacies in Canada and are describing the contents.
Your pre-pack contains:
Counter display/countertop display
Counter card???????
"CARTE" is what I do not understand.
"Card" does not make much sense.
Other possibilities for translating "carte" are "menu", "map", "board". Do any of these have a special meaning in cosmetics marketing? I've been googling but getting nowhere.
Thanks in advance.

counter cards
This link from a graphic art website uses the term to describe stand-up displays that you would see on a cosmetics counter (look at "carte comptoir" in the upper right-hand side of the page).

A quick search in English for "counter display" and "counter card" make me lean toward calling them "counter cards", since "counter display" seems used more to describe the whole set-up with actual sample products also displayed.

Re-reading your question, I see that counter displays are included as a separate item, so I would definitely go with "counter card" in that case. If you do an image search for "cosmetics counter display" you'll see examples that will make sense of what they're talking about.

Thank you! This seems right, and your references support your answer nicely. Great research. I had tried googling "counter card" but was getting nowhere. |

point-of-purchase display
Could it be in-house advertising? I was thinking of the glossy kind of thing that you see on counters, in windows, etc.
Note from asker:
Thanks for your suggestion. It could be a poster of sorts. Actually, Word Reference gives "affichette" as one type of "carte", but more likely seen in a restaurant setting. |

Flyer, maybe?
I assume the display will have some flyers inside.

Note from asker:
Thanks for your suggestion. There seems to be just one of these included, so I don't think it's something to be given out to the public. |
