French term

capacité

French to English Social Sciences Education / Pedagogy French university system
Hi all,

This comes in a diagram showing the structure of courses at a university, so unfortunately no more context is available.

Capacite de orthopiste ou certificat de psychomotricite (sorry no accents).

My question concerns the term capacite. Is this a course to add on a specialisation? How might it be said? (seeing as it can't be a certificate)

Many thanks in advance,

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Linebyline (asker) Oct 5, 2008:
I now see looking through to the last note in your answer that you did give that. However I very much appreciate the Eurydice context given by Rachel Fell, as my text is for a university website and I wanted to be sure to give the correct equivalent. Thanks very much for your help.
Linebyline (asker) Oct 5, 2008:
Please note, this is not a medical question. It's about the French university system. Thanks,
Linebyline (asker) Oct 5, 2008:
Thanks, you're right about the typo, it is orthoptiste. However, my question is not about this term, but rather 'capacite'. I'm looking for information on the level of qualification corresponding to 'capacite'.
Drmanu49 Oct 5, 2008:
Typo it shoud read "orthoptiste".

sorry, forget the line "certificate of qualification as an orthoptist", though it's what you'd get from successfully completing the capacité ;-)
