French term

quadra

French to English Other Geography calculating a fish's area of occupancy
Hi all,

This is from a document in Canadian French about the banded killifish. This specific sentence is about calculated the fish's area of occupancy using "quadra." I've never seen this term before and am having a hard time. Any ideas?? I think it involves quadrature....

zone d’occurrence = extent of occurrence
zone d'occupation = area of occupancy

Thanks!

Quadrat is it. THanks!

Merriam-Webster: a small usually rectangular plot laid off (as in a forest, range, pasture, or cultivated field) for the study of vegetation or animals
Hattie Hill (asker) Oct 19, 2008:
I just found "grid squares" as well

AOO = Area of Occupancy, constitutes a count of grid cells (3 × 3 km) where the species occurs multiplied by 9 km2
