German term

Blendenstrom

German to English Tech/Engineering Electronics / Elect Eng
The topic is high energy welding. The client has developed a system for seam welding and circular welding. I understand the "Blende" to be some kind of protective mask. Are there any welding experts out there ?
Many thanks in advance to all

Change log

Aug 6, 2005 21:02: Stephen Sadie changed "Level" from "Non-PRO" to "PRO"

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

PRO (3): Brie Vernier, Claire Langhard, Stephen Sadie

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

Leonid Gornik Aug 18, 2005:
First, "strom" is "flow". Second "diaphragm flow" does not have anything to do with welding. Third: I am not imposing this term upon you, and I am not expecting evaluation of "lexical correctness" whatever that might mean!

Welding is often done with a shilding gas, which protects the welding bath against oxidation.

aperture current

supposing there's an electrical current related to an aperture that shapes the welding arc (either to keep the aperture at the required voltage to sustain an electric field or a leakage current between the electrode and the aperture)

in other words: try to get some background info from the client
