German term

Tonträger

German to English Marketing Media / Multimedia
For a music website. The only translation I can find is "sound carrier" - erm...
I can't think of the generic term for CDs, audio tapes, etc.

'Media format' should of course be 'audio format' ;) in line with my answer ..
Neil Gouw Feb 25, 2005:
.. but 'Tontrger' (just like its Dutch equivalent 'geluidsdragers') refers to the media formats that hold/contain/carry (!) that recording. Hence the noun Ton-Trger :)

mstkwasa Feb 23, 2005:
This word has caused a heated debate before. See http://www.proz.com/kudoz/914991 and if any options there will be appropriate.
Francis Lee (X) Feb 23, 2005:
Can you give us an entire sentence in which the word appears?
