sorry, my Initial entry is misleading. the term lues is of course not limited to the Primary stage but is used throughout all stages, from the Primary one on.

: pox! :))) Lues=Syphiilis but sounds much more elegant (and "medical-like"). Incidentally, in Russian, for instance, S is more if not entirely for common parlance while L is definitely THE medical trade talk!

Both terms are also used in Romanian, 'sifilis' being the common one (agree with Michael).
