Italian term

motrice autobotte

Italian to English Tech/Engineering Transport / Transportation / Shipping
I know what the individual words mean here but I'm having trouble putting it together.

The context is the 'packaging' column of a technical data sheet. The item in question is a 'bagno ramo alkalino'.

Under packaging, it has 'sfuso in motrice autobotte' followed by a list of other transportation methods e.g. flatcar, truck etc.

Now, motrice can be 'engine' as a noun or 'driving' as an adjective as far as I know. 'Autobotte' is a tanker lorry. Surely the 'bagno' can't be 'unpacked in the tanker lorry engine' because that wouldn't make a lot of sense. But neither does 'driving' or 'driven' tanker lorry. Can anyone help please?

Hi Kate, I'm grasping a bit at straws here, but perhaps its to emphasize this is a tank truck (tank lorry) not a ship tanker or rail tanker? That's all I could come up with. I certainly wouldn't want to be the driver otherwise!

(bulk loads) in tanker lorry

You are right but you got fooled by "ramo". If this were right, it would mean "branch" of a tree for example, which obviously doesn't make sense.
It is almost certainly (check it with the context) a misspelling of "rame" i.e. Copper (chemical symbol Cu) which is clearly the majour constituent.
With that it becomes clear: the stuff is sold in packaged units (pallets etc) but also in bulk. In this case it will come in lorry loads, already liquid, with all substances dissolved.
"Motrice" means "tractor" and it refers to the bigger tanker lorries, where the tractor is a separate unit and the tanker is just the trailer. In other words, it assures you it's not a piddly lorry, it's a big one, an articulated lorry. Sometimes we Italians like to play it big...
