agree tatyana000 : I think you got the right idea here taking the Russian context into account. However, I have 2 quibbles. First, I wouldn't say "trading out", just trade or simply exchange. Second, you can't tell whether it's a large apt being traded or several smaller on

"размен", as opposed to "обмен", usually implies trading one unit for two or more smaller ones, e.g. in case of divorce, etc.

Thank you. The term "house exchange" is used loosely in the UK to cover flats too, and "housing" covers it all anyway.
