Spanish term

contrastante

Spanish to English Art/Literary Idioms / Maxims / Sayings
Text by a Spanish artist talking about writing

Ante el primer borrador del texto titulado “Algo escrito” mi primer interlocutor se muestra favorable, pero el segundo, tras leerlo, me dice que no se me ocurra incluirlo en la publicación, que no me conviene. Intrigado ante tal consejo/reacción, llamo a otras dos de mis contrastantes que ya lo habían leído; una me dice que el principio es duro, pero se lo ha parecido menos esta vez pues ha visto que he suavizado el comienzo. El texto en sí —asegura—, a pesar de lo abrupto del comienzo, le ha gustado. También le ha interesado por cuestiones que le han tocado, ya que ella escribe. Lo paso a un cuarto contrastante con la esperanza de que tenga una opinión totalmente diferente del que me dio la voz de alarma;

Seems to be readers here, but that seems strange

I wonder if the idea is a sounding board, someone you can bounce ideas off. This could be a friend or colleague, or a paid consultant.
Wilsonn Perez Reyes Dec 11, 2023:
Este uso de "contrastante" parece ser español gallego y no latinoamericano.

advisor/adviser

I don't know what translation you're using for 'interlocutor', but this is simply a synonym for that, so advisor should work.
Peer comment(s):

agree ormiston : The Spanish term is weird but you are right about it denoting other 'interlocutores'

A beta-reader

Purely given the context and perhaps because of the implied 'critique::

Definition: a beta reader is a person who reads your manuscript before it's published and provides you with feedback on your story.

Seems to be someone who has been asked to provide a critique/comments

I've found a more standard term - a TEST READER
Peer comment(s):

neutral philgoddard : Maybe. This is a recent coinage, originating in the software industry, and may not suit the register or period of the text. It shouldn't have a hyphen.

I get your point but agree on the definition: a person who reads a work of fiction before it is published in order to mark errors and suggest improvements.
