I do not do so on a monthly basis. The question is skewed. I "occasionally" work for agencies. In fact, I've just looked at my bills for the 1st three quarters of this year and it turns out I have issued one bill (for less than 400 €) to a translation agency. The rest of my clients are direct contacts, usually by recommendation from other satisfied clients. | | | Mary Worby United Kingdom Local time: 18:42 German to English + ... 12 so far this month | Oct 23, 2009 |
10 or more is normal for me. I'm actually surprised at how low the numbers are and am wondering whether are working for 1-2 or 3-5 agencies plus direct customers, or whether those 1-2 or 3-5 agencies represent all their income. | | | Interlangue (X) Angola Local time: 19:42 English to French + ...
"Monthly" does not mean much... I work for a dozen agencies, all in all, usually one more than the others, not always the same each month. The one for which I worked most this month has been top of the list for the past 15 months, sometimes even "the only one".

Like Neil, I work for a few agencies occasionally, but not on a regular, monthly basis. So far in October I've issued five or six invoices, all to direct customers or colleagues with whom I cooperate. It is unlikely that I will work with any of my agency customers in the next few weeks either, but perhaps before the year's out. Best, Jocelyne

It isn't something that is steady from month to month for me. Overall I regularly work for 30 or so agencies, this specfic month I have worked for 7, the month before I worked for only 2. It varies a gret deal from month to month, if I have one or two large projects - the figure is much lower, if I have many medium/small projects higher. | | | I work for 3 to 5 agencies regularly... | Oct 23, 2009 |
... but the bulk of my work is comprised by direct clients...

Some months 1, others 10 or more. Depends on project length and deadline. | | | Henry Hinds United States Local time: 11:42 English to Spanish + ... In memoriam
Like a few others here, virtually all my clients are direct, and I only do work for agencies on an exceptional basis, mostly one that is local, and I have known them for many years. I think that situation makes for a good life. Most of my clients I know personally. | | | m_temmer Local time: 11:42 English to Dutch + ...
I exclusively work for agencies, I really don't want to be exposed to the whims and impossible demands of direct clients. I have three or four agencies that give me plenty of work and I have some other agencies for which I work occasionally to fill the gaps. Depending on the volume of the assignments, in one month, I can work for let's say 3 to 10 agencies, the average being 5-6, I think. And that means those agencies give me enough work to keep me busy all month.

On rare occasions, more. I have nearly 30 agencies on my client list, but also have local law firms, school systems, etc., etc., so can't always take work the agencies offer (which I can't/won't outsource, whereas private client projects, if I am too busy, I can outsource).

I work regularly for one agency here in Brazil and quite often for another. In addition to that there are a few agencies in the USA and other places that contact me from time to time. I have two direct clients that I work for regularly and a fellow translator who gets in touch when she has extra work. This combination pays my bills quite nicely. | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Poll: How many agencies do you work for on regular basis?
