I voted "No", but I wasn't quite sure how to understand the question. I have never asked a colleague for help directly in order to finish a project/meet a deadline, but I have asked colleagues for help with terminology or proofreading.

I was offered a big project, and I knew I wasn-t able to do it by myself by the deadline, beacause of other previous deadlines.. so I asked a colleague, we worked together, and shared the money...

I have managed several large projects for my own clients. It is not an easy task, but once you gather the ideal team, everything goes smoothly.
Though somewhat stressful because you are responsible for everybody's work, the experience is enriching if you love challenges

I work with a colleague. He lives 10 minutes from my house and the first time we met was through PROZ. I am very happy with the quality of his work and we have a great working relationship and friendship. I don't think that I would use colleagues that I didn't know to help me finish a job.

I understand the question as ‘helping out in a rush’. No, I never asked a colleague for help. I do help out one colleague once in a while though, when a huge project needs to be finished in what will turn out to be too short a time. Taking over a chapter or two relieves the time pressure, from the very start. Next step is that we substitute for each other during holidays or rush periods and we ended up ‘sharing’ several clients. I call it networking.

Happens often enough. I think a seasoned professional should know when she / he can't finish a job in the time alloted by her(him)self. Moreover, as the saying goes,"two heads are better than one".
I've also learnt a lot by working with other colleagues, especially when I started out a few years ago, but even these days.
It's necessary of course that the conditions are made clear at the start - to enhance the trust being built up.

I have referred colleagues when I knew that I could not handle a project, but my involvement ended in the referral.

I can only answer for my capacity. I know my own normal productivity and burst rate productivity. However, there are still customers who imagine 1000 pages can come out in five days, so I always have a ready list of referrals for forming a team.
I never volunteer myself to manage a large-scale project (by outsourcing, for example), nor am I willing to assume the administration tasks associated, so this is the best I can offer.
