neutral  Alexander Demyanov: A company is, of course, free to call its departments whatever it chooses. However, accounts departments normally handle client/partner/contract accounts business transactions (e.g. receivables). In rather smallish companies they may also pay salaries.

neutral  Alexander Demyanov: Human resources departments are responsible for many tasks, and payroll is just one of them. In a small company all the functions may be covered by HR but in larger organizations Payroll is it's own dept or subdepartment.

23 mins
-> yes, maybe wages departments are a bit old-fashioned

neutral  Alexander Demyanov: Some are actually called Salaries & Wages Dept. I believe your suggestion can be used as it does convey the meaning, but it's not as common a dept name, as "payroll".

neutral  RHELLER: very rarely - usually when there is no HR dept; in the U.S. all big companies have an HR dept and the biggest companies all have payroll depts
16 mins
-> then, let's say, "we cannot know for sure with the current context (none) that Svend provided while asking this question" :O what kind of company? in which country? size? e.g. in turkey, I don't know any company that holds a specific payroll department.

neutral  Alexander Demyanov: True, a finance dept may be responsible for payroll; Payroll dept may be under Finance. Then why not suggest just "company" as a translation//I trust you on that, but do 90% of them operate/name their depts in English?
1 day 17 hrs
-> I think we should stop this, coz it started to turn into the phenomenon(?) "Does the hen lay eggs, or else, is the hen itself born out of the egg?"
