URGENT!
Does anyone please have an idea what to call this colour in EN? Out of the few (relevant) references I've found to it on the 'Net, I can't even seem to find one that describes it, though a few pictures do seem to show it as a sort of pale grey. But the document I'm working on is not in any way associated with those sources.
I thought of it as 'battleship grey', or 'cloud grey', considering that 'steel grey' and 'pewter' are perhaps too dark for this.
I'd be really grateful if anyone has any concrete information on this, or failing that, for suggestions of a suitable name; bear in mind this is simply a general colour description, like 'red' and 'denim blue' as colours that are "in this year" (though not necessarily this particular year, 2011!)
Thanks a lot in advance!

spoon grey
It exists:

She can commonly be seen with her best friend, Miley Cyrus at red carpet events and they even share a designer line called M&A, best known for skinny jeans and sweaters of their unique shade of grey which they call "spoon grey."

Rare in French and equally rare in English! Thanks!

Comment: "Thanks a lot, Clain! As you say, equally rare in both languages; but as my document was emphasizing the trendiness of it, I think this was probably the right one to choose; the client seems happy, anyway!"

silver grey
spoons are silverware and silver grey sounds pretty as opposed to battleship or steel.
Note from asker:
Thanks, Emile! Absolutely, I think this is exactly the term I was looking for! |
Thanks a lot, Emile! In the end, I went for the more exotic (?) 'spoon grey', which seemed appropriate in my context, emphasizing as it did the trendiness of this colour — so we can assume, recently 'invented'! |

metallic grey
...is what sprang to mind.
For example

I'll see if I can find some better examples....

I think you're safe using it alongside metallic threads. It is clear that metallic grey refers to a colour, whilst metallic threads have a fair amount of sparkle in them. You may always be able to add "shade of" in front, or "tone" behind the grey, to make a clear distinction. Failing that, it's back to your battleships I'm afraid.

Thanks, JdM! That's a great idea, but I think I'd not be able to use it here, because of mentions elsewhere of metallic threads etc. |

: Tony's right - this implies shiny.

Thanks Phil. I don't believe this necessarily implies shiny, unlike metallic thread, or silver thread for that matter. Sadly, the spoons in my drawers are metal, not silver, and not particularly shiny either ;-)

another suggestion...
Note from asker:
Thanks, Teresa! Another nice one, I must say I visualize this as somewhat darker... and as Emile says, perhaps less appealing in the fashion trade? |

Note from asker:
A good solution, J, thanks a lot; I hesitated for a long time between this and 'spoon', but in the end went for the latter, as this was talking about trendy, hence presumably the use of the more 'exotic' word! |

Pas facile les couleurs - je viens de le faire en néerlandais et j'avais : yellow page !?!? C'était aussi pour des vêtements. Bon courage - Je compatis à la difficulté !!
