@Anna Thanks for the information. Why not take the translation from the Heidelberg University Homepage: Behavioural and Cultural Studies , if that is what you studied. Are you going to apply via online application. You could put a hyperlink in your CV that takes the parties concerned straight to the university hompage. That would speed up the process if they need further information concerning your studies.

Thanks to all the answerers for your suggestions @ Mack: I am translating my own Translator's diploma from the Heidelberg University into English, and this is one of the subjects I studied (history, politics and culture - a bit of everything).

FWIW, ... .. the University of Colorado has a course that would seem to fit the bill and that they call "Foreign Culture Studies" (not many relevant hits apart from that, though).

Comparative Cultural Studies

I think "comparative" has to be there. For example, "Comparative Education" is a course dealing with different national education systems.

I thought about "Comparative National and Cultural Studies" but there is a bit of overlap there, probably.

Depending on how far in depth the studies go, if it is a specialized course, if the language is also part of the process..........

agree philgoddard : I don't agree with the "folklore" bit, but I don't think there is an English equivalent of this word. If the country is (say) America, then it's American studies.
